"Delegate & Meditate" - Managing Stress and Anxiety in Customer-Facing Jobs
As Told By Oluwole Sharon, Junior Customer Experience Associate
As a customer-facing professional, self-care is essential to maintaining productivity, providing excellent service, and avoiding burnout.
Here are the detailed steps I take to ensure I care for myself effectively:
1. Prioritize Physical Well-Being
Exercise: I Incorporate daily physical activity, like a morning jog, to reduce stress and boost my energy for the day.
Balanced Diet: I also maintain a nutritious diet and stay hydrated to keep energy levels high.
Adequate Sleep: Aim for 7-8 hours of quality sleep to ensure mental and physical readiness for the day.
2. Manage Mental and Emotional Health
Mindfulness: Practice meditation or deep breathing to stay calm and focused during stressful situations.
Set Boundaries: Define clear work-life boundaries, including scheduled breaks and avoiding after-hours emails.
Seek Support: Engage with a mentor, therapist, or support group for advice and perspective.
3. Continuous Learning and Development
Training: Regularly participate in professional development to enhance skills and stay motivated.
Stay Updated: Follow industry trends and best practices through blogs, podcasts, and books.
4. Time Management
Task Prioritization: Use tools like Trello to organize tasks, breaking down large projects to prevent overwhelm.
Delegation: Delegate tasks when possible to avoid burnout and maintain a manageable workload.
5. Build Relationships
Positive Work Environment: Nurture relationships with colleagues and clients to create a supportive work atmosphere.
Work-Life Balance: Spend quality time with family and friends, and engage in hobbies to recharge.
6. Reflect and Adjust
Self-Reflection: Regularly assess stress levels and satisfaction, making adjustments as needed to maintain well-being.
Resources that I Use:
Headspace: For guided meditations and mindfulness exercises.
MyFitnessPal: To track my diet and exercise.
Trello: For task management and organization.
Coursera: For professional development and continuous learning.
